VARCLIM

Les recherches menées par l’équipe Variabilité Climatique (VarClim) visent à mieux comprendre le rôle de l’océan et des forçages externes (naturels et anthropiques) dans la variabilité climatique aux échelles de temps intra-saisonnières à multi-décennales

Les recherches menées par l’équipe Variabilité Climatique (VarClim) visent à mieux comprendre le rôle de l’océan et des forçages externes (naturels et anthropiques) dans la variabilité climatique aux échelles de temps intra-saisonnières à multi-décennales dans les trois bassins océaniques (Pacifique, Indien et Atlantique) et les régions continentales adjacentes. Ces activités s’appuient sur des observations in situ et satellites, des reconstructions climatiques (réanalyses), des reconstructions paléoclimatiques longues, ainsi que différentes simulations de modèles de climat. Les investigations menées sur les mécanismes climatiques permettent en particulier de progresser sur ces différentes approches et leurs combinaisons. Ces actions s’appuient fortement sur l’implication des chercheurs de l’équipe dans les chantiers régionaux locaux (Inde, Brésil, Sénégal notamment) via des expatriations, missions de longue durée et l’encadrement d’étudiants. Une importante proportion de chercheurs de l’équipe est en effet soutenue par l’IRD, ce qui contribue à sa force et à son identité. L’équipe mène également une réflexion sur l’usage de la science du climat au service des sociétés pour renforcer les capacités d’adaptation des pays du Sud face au réchauffement climatique. Cette recherche se traduit entre autres par la mise en place de démonstrateurs de services climatiques conjointement avec des partenaires de certains pays du Sud.
