Sea ice is a key brick of the climate system, and its representation in Earth System Models is both crucial and complex, despite inherent limitations. Sea ice models within Earth System Models (ESMs) have diverse applications, encompassing climate prediction, forecasting, and the study of sea ice geophysics. In this
presentation, I will cover the following questions:
•    Why is sea ice modelled as it is, and what are the reasons behind key modelling choices?
•    Are sea ice models useful and what for?
•    What strategies could be adopted in the future of sea ice modeling? (While presenting this, I will adopt a NEMO-centric perspective).
